XAVIER ESQUIVEL, 74, of Quimby, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, December 22nd from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa with the family present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Pastor Don Meyer will officiate. It was Xavier's wishes to be cremated. Burial will take place in the Quimby Cemetery and in Mexico at a later date. Xavier was born October 13, 1940 at Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico to Melecio and Cleofas (Lopez) Esquivel. He attended school in Mexico. He was married to Azalia Huck on July 18, 1974 at Quimby, Iowa. Xavier had lived in Quimby the past 34 years, prior to this in Chicago, Illinois. Before coming to the United States, he worked on the family farm in Mexico and also gathered and broke wild horses. He later moved to Texas where he was a Caterpillar operator. He moved to Chicago where he worked for Vienna Sausage Co. He then moved to Quimby, Iowa and worked for Wilson Food Corp. retiring in 2003. He was an award winning pool player, He liked playing cards, Dominoes, walking and building things on his farm along with raising horses and cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 15 siblings, and a daughter Carmen Joines.
He is survived by his wife, Azalia, three daughters and two grandsons; Polly (Fritz) Laddusaw of Pierson, Iowa; Greta Millen and her fiancé Armando Moreno of Cherokee, Iowa; ; Michael and Benjamin Joines (Carmen's two sons) of Quimby, Iowa;; Rubi (Jay) Peters of Quimby, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Zachary, Udelvina, Joey, Matthew, Sara, Nathaniel, Christopher, Anthony and Elizabeth; also 3 great grandchildren.
